About Doors Open Days Lanarkshire 2017
Get into buildings across Lanarkshire this September. Doors Open Days is taking place on the weekend of the 9th in North Lanarkshire and the 30th in South Lanarkshire. Sample beers from a microbrewery and get behind the scenes of the Cumbernauld Theatre – all for free!
Visit this delightful rural parish Church with medieval origins and a more recent history of featuring in the TV show, Taggart as the fictional resting place of Jim Taggart’s Aunt Hettie.
St. Bride’s Roman Catholic Church
Visit this intriguing Church with a radical modernist design.
Come for a guided tour of the Mausoleum with its massive dome, magnificent bronze doors, marble floors, and eerily atmospheric crypt – and not to forget the record-breaking echo!
New to Doors Open Days this year! The theatre and arts centre are based within a row of 18th century cottages which were originally built as part of the Cumbernauld House Estate and converted to a theatre in the early 1960's.
Cumbernauld Town Centre Penthouses
This once award winning brutalist megastructure has suffered from neglect in previous year but now under new management there is a renewed desire to return the penthouses to a suitable use. There are fantastic views over much of Cumbernauld, and farther afield.
New to Doors Open Days this year! Get behind the scenes of one of the smallest brewing companies in the UK and enjoy some samples of the Lawman beer brands.
Palacerigg Animal House and Millennium Longhouses
Palacerigg Country Park
New to Doors Open Days this year! Tours will include a rare chance to see how we heat the Longhouses with fuel from the park and to visit our animal sick bay, talk on small animals and see how we look after our rare breeds livestock at Palacerigg.
Cumbernauld Library and Museum
Visit for a special exhibition for the 50th anniversary year of Cumbernauld Town Centre, and a talk and book signing by DJ Tom Russell.
