The DF118s mix ska, punk, funk and psychedelia into a potent and addictive cocktail... catch them on February 2nd at East Kilbride Arts Centre!
About The DF118’s
Sorry, but this event has been and gone!
The DF118’s were started by Rab McCahill (of Esperanza & The Counterfeit Clash) and long term bass collaborator Hugh Lynch. They first discussed the idea of a funky-punky-psychedelic-ska band at Wickerman 2015 where Rab was performing with Esperanza and Hugh, a graphic artist, was providing projections. Ironically, this would turn out to be the final Wickerman Festival, but from its ashes and that fateful conversation, The DF118’s have emerged.
With commitments elsewhere, the new band took some time to get going. First on board was drummer Johnny Leslie who has previously played with Rab in The Counterfeit Clash. Next was James Travers (previously of The Tartan Rascals). At the time he’d been prescribed pain-killers for a sore back. They sent him to cloud 9 ;) and so the name DF118s came courtesy of the new rhythm guitarist’s medication. Finally Alex “Accy” Scott (also of The Tartan Rascals) and Gerry McCahill (Rab’s brother) were tasked with general rebel, rabbie rousing and on-stage shenanigans.
Musically the DF118s mix ska, punk, funk and psychedelia into a potent and addictive cocktail. Lyrically, the songs take you on a rollercoaster ride. On the journey, we hear tales of love, virtue and vice – all served up DF118 style. Likened to, among others, The Clash, Dr Feelgood and The Happy Mondays. The songs are heart felt, honest and provocative. Sometimes tongue-in-cheek and sometimes disturbingly gritty.
While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for The DF118’s are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
