‘Heavy Metal’ Show

About ‘Heavy Metal’ Show

Join us at Summerlee Museum this weekend (Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 May) at the ‘Heavy Metal Show’ with blacksmithing demos, arts & crafts and lots of family fun!

The free ‘Heavy Metal’ Show will take place at Summerlee Museum from 10am – 4pm and offers families an action-packed day out.

Meet and chat to blacksmiths, watch demonstrations and take part in casting workshops to create masterpieces using kinetic sand. Visitors can also take part in arts & crafts activities, take a ride on the tram and burn off some energy at the award winning playpark. All set to a backdrop of a ‘heavy metal’ playlist!
Visitors can also find out about metal making in Lanarkshire at the Coal, Steel and Earth exhibition, open until 28 May.

Festival of Museums ‘Heavy Metal’ Show, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 May, 10am – 4pm.

The event is supported by Museums Galleries Scotland.

Coal, Steel and Earth: Photographs of Kingshill and Ravenscraig
Coal, Steel and Earth is the result of a collaboration between two artists, Frank McElhinney and John Farrell, who were born and raised in Lanarkshire. The exhibition is the exploration of Kingshill and Ravenscraig; one was a coalmine that fed the other, a great steelworks. Over a number of years, a picture was formed of what became of these former industrial sites, rather than what remains of them. Those of us who have some connection to these landscapes project our own histories onto them. We look back.

The photographs are intended to be of now. Fresh, open eyed, as objective as photographs might be. Nevertheless, the work invokes history as a process of change, and begs the question what kind of future do we want to build?

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for ‘Heavy Metal’ Show are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
