Biggar Little Festival

About Biggar Little Festival

Back for its 17th year - it's Biggar Little Festival. A small town at large. Join us to celebrate music, dance, arts and crafts, literature, and drama.

Biggar will be filled with an eclectic programme of workshops, exhibitions, children's events, performances, a craft and food fair, and festival clubs. The Festival closes with the glorious Biggar Day Out which fills the town. Expect a few surprises.

Discover what brings well-known performers and artists to the Festival.

This year we welcome Barbara Dickson and Rab Noakes. Comedian Jojo Sutherland is with us following her stand-out success at this year's Fringe. Previous guests have included: Val McDermid, Andy Fairweather Low, Elaine C. Smith, Eddi Reader and Paul Jones.

Take your pick from more than 50 events spread across 10 days (and more) in October.

Many events are free! So start planning your visit to the Biggar Little Festival now!

Music at Biggar Little Festival

There's an array of great music on offer covering a wide range of genres and tastes at this year's Biggar Little Festival. Read on...

Jazz fans receive a big helping. First up, the Louise Dodds Quartet performing a trademark blend of jazz standards, bebop classics and original material. [She] demonstrates "...depth and warmth in spadefuls" (BBC Radio Ulster). Then we have Tommy Smith and Brian Kellock. Smith is a founder of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and one of the world's leading saxophonists. Pianist Brian Kellock is internationally recognised. Together they have surprised the jazz world and delighted fans with their wonderfully inclusive mix of classic jazz and Broadway melodies.

And we're not without talent closer to home. Biggar Big Band will serve up large dollops of jazz and swing with just a little reggae, soul and Latin on the side. Mmmm, nice.

Fancy some folk? Clydesdale Folk Club brings us Malinky, "one of the great traditional Scottish bands". Contemporary champions of traditional Scots song, they are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band.

Who recognises this?: "When chapmen billies leave the street and drouthy neebors, neebors meet..." Correct!, the opening lines of Burns' Tam o' Shanter. Aye, well we've got Drouthy Neebors (oh, come on...thirsty neighbours!) who promise a night of musical mayhem as they bring Battle Tunes and Ballads.

Irish song is to the fore with 2 artists. PJ Lynch brings the Irish Songbook to life while traditional Irish dance group Absolutely Legless respond to the live driving rhythms and evocative melodies of Irish dance music.

Now, how about some Dylan ..or Van Morrison... or, even, John Martyn (R.I.P.)? OK, we're a Biggar festival buuuut maybe not that big. These 3 tribute concerts, though, promise to bring the sublime breadth and depth of those artists' work to life. What a treat!

Note: Tickets for our headline act - Barbara Dickson and Rab Noakes (sponsored by The Biggar Gallery) - have all gone (online/telephone sales).

This is just a flavour of what's on the list this year. For the full run-down of our musical mélange have a look at the web site or look out for our printed programme.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Biggar Little Festival are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
