To celebrate Visit Scotland’s ‘Year of Food and Drink’, New Lanark’s annual Spring Food and Gift Fair will highlight the best of local produce and include demonstrations by chefs and producers from across Scotland, including the chef from the New Lanark Mill Hotel.
Running on Monday 4th May from 10am-4pm, New Lanark’s Spring Food and Gift Fair is free to enter and will give visitors the chance to look around a range of stalls and get a taste of delicious produce from Lanarkshire and beyond.
The fair will also include arts & crafts and gifts & accessories, with traditional crafters demonstrating skills like historic craft preservation and mixed media jewellery.
New Lanark’s in-house produced Wool & Textiles will be available to purchase, and visitors will have the chance to take part in some knitting and crafting workshops.
Emma McGuinness, New Lanark Events Officer said “Our Food and Gift Fairs are always very popular, and this year’s event is going to be extra special as it’s Visit Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink. We hope that lots of people make it down the Fair to try some delicious local produce, or pick up some beautiful handmade crafts. From cider to candles and tablet to totes, there’s sure to be something on offer at the Fair to catch your eye!”
“Scotland’s larder will be in the spotlight once again in 2015 as, in partnership with Scottish Government, VisitScotland, EventScotland and Think Local, we celebrate the Year of Food and Drink, hot on the heels of the year of Homecoming and the triumphant sporting events where quality Scottish produce took centre-stage. The aim of the Year is to mark, highlight and promote Scotland’s abundant, quality produce to our people and visitors, demonstrating that we are a destination for delicious food and drink and its key role in our economic growth and cultural development.” Fiona Richmond, Project Manager – www.scotlandfoodanddrink.org
The New Lanark Visitor Centre, New Lanark Mill Hotel, Mill Shop and Mill Café will all be open on Monday 4th May. Why not make a day of it visiting New Lanark or even work up an appetite (for something local!) with a walk to the Falls of Clyde?
