Following the outstanding success of the previous training programme, Clydesdale Community Initiatives (CCI) and Heritage Lottery Fund supported Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP) are delighted to have been awarded £45,000 funding by The Scottish Government’s People and Communities Fund for environmental volunteering projects throughout the Clyde and Avon Valley.
Funded until April 2016, the project will deliver 168 volunteering sessions on a wide range of environmental and conservation projects such as path building and invasive species removal.
Many of the free sessions are open to local communities and will take place on sites owned or managed by CAVLP partners including the Scottish Wildlife Trust Falls of Clyde, New Lanark, South Lanarkshire Council, North Lanarkshire Council, RSPB Baron’s Haugh and Scottish Natural Heritage Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserves. Other community groups who are involved in the CAVLP programme could also benefit where they have a suitable project.
Niall McShannon, Managing Director of CCI explains, “The focus of the programme will be to develop the skills, confidence and health of volunteers and a range of events will be held with some being available for everyone to participate in and others focused on engaging individuals with support needs. There will also be opportunities for volunteers to undertake formal training certificates in disciplines from chainsaw skills to pesticide applications.”
“We are thrilled to announce another round of environmental and conservation volunteering projects, especially following the success of last year’s evaluation,” says Kirsten Robb, CAVLP Community Engagement Officer. “The sessions will give individuals the skills and confidence in contributing to future community projects.”
It is hoped that the legacy of the programme will be a pool of volunteers who are skilled up and empowered to help look after some of the amazing natural heritage and features that we have in the Clyde and Avon Valleys.
Places are free but booking is essential. For more information and to book, please visit www.cci.web.org.uk, email dawn@cciweb.org.uk or call 01555 664 211.
