On Sunday 19th February, Scotland’s inaugural Prestige Hotel Awards showcased and rewarded outstanding service within the hotel industry. A 10-strong team of staff from the New Lanark Mill Hotel attended the awards, and were delighted to receive the Front of House Team of the Year Award! John Stirrat, Hotel General Manager said “They really are a committed team. Passionate and caring are the main words I would use to describe them. Everyone wants the hotel to be successful, but they also know that if the hotel is successful they are helping towards the restoration of the beautiful World Heritage Site that we are located in. It is for the greater good that New Lanark continues to prosper and attract visitors from all over the world.”
At the annual Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards on Friday 3rd March, New Lanark beat off competition from two other finalists to receive The John Brinkins Award for Excellence in Tourism. New Lanark’s application for the award focussed on the efforts of New Lanark Trading, one of the New Lanark’s Trust’s commercial subsidiaries which operates the Visitor Attraction, Mill Shop, Mill Café as well as the production of New Lanark Ice Cream, New Lanark Wool & Textiles and the site’s hydro-electricity production. The Excellence in Tourism award is sponsored by VisitLanarkshire and named after John Brinkins who was a major driving force within the Scottish tourism sector until his sudden passing in 2012.
New Lanark Ice Cream has also been performing well in its own right by scooping four more awards at the annual Ice Cream Alliance Awards in Harrogate this February. The team picked up a Diploma of Merit in the Dairy Ice Cream Artisan Class and three more Diplomas in the following categories: Ice Cream Open Class; Raspberry Panacotta Flavour and the Strawberries & Cream Flavour. New Lanark’s Simply Vanilla was previously awarded the top accolade of ‘Overall Champion Ice Cream’ at the Royal Highland Show in 2015.
Scott McCauley, New Lanark Trust Chief Executive said “We have approximately 165 staff working here at New Lanark in a very diverse range of activities, from running our Hotel to producing our award-winning Ice Cream and it’s fantastic to see their hard work being recognised on a national scale. As one of Scotland’s 6 UNESCO World Heritage Sites we’re committed to continually improving our services and products to provide a world-class experience for our visitors and guests”.
