Lanark makers craft up Christmas gifting event

As part of Lanark Winterfest 2018, 5 local makers have joined forces to promote the unique range of crafting talent in Lanark with an Online Winter Market Night on Sunday 18th November!

The ‘Made in Lanark’ Online Winter Market Night will be hosted on the Made in Lanark Facebook page from 8pm - www.facebook.com/madeinlanark. During the online event, participants will have the chance to shop from a wide range of locally handmade crafts including: personalised gifts, frames, papercut cards, soy wax candles & diffusers, homemade scones and the popular ‘I’m dead posh I’m fae Lanark’ collection. Local ‘Made in Lanark’ makers taking part in the first Online Winter Market Night are:

Speaking about forming the ‘Made in Lanark’ Collective, Nikki from The Material Geeks said: “...the Collective has formed through years of friendship and collaborative working on a range of projects. I have always thought that by supporting each other and working together, local makers would have a better chance of thriving. It’s fantastic to be able to run ideas past each other, and we also get to meet up and eat cake – which is a bonus in a job that can be lonely.”

“My plan is to form more partnerships with Lanark makers. There is an insane amount of talent on our doorstep that we want to let people know about. Christmas is the perfect time for people to ‘shop local’ and give unique gifts to their loved ones, whilst supporting small local businesses at the same time. I hope that lots of people will participate in our first Online Winter Market Night on 18th November.”

Laura from Vintache added that she “is very excited to be part of the Made in Lanark Collective and looks forward to collaborating with more local makers” and Clare from Pretty as a Picture Gifts “is looking forward to working together with other talented makers to show Lanark what is on offer.”

The Online Winter Market Night is just 1 of 40+ events included in this year’s Lanark Winterfest. The Winterfest Programme has been produced by Lanark Community Development Trust since 2015, and it has grown in popularity ever since with more festive events being added every year for the community to enjoy. Winterfest is part of the Development Trust’s ‘Lanark Festivals’ project, which also includes FlowerFest at Castlebank Park, taking place from 10-12 May 2019.
