Queen Victoria’s 200th Commemoration Costume Display

About Queen Victoria’s 200th Commemoration Costume Display

The black mourning dress worn by Queen Victoria approximately c.1888.

The Queen's son in Law, Emperor Frederick 3rd of Prussia, husband of the the Queen's eldest daughter Victoria, Princess Royal, died prematurely at the age of 57 during this period.

This outfit is from the Museum's costume collection and was acquired by the late Brian Lambie from the Murray Blackwood family. It has only been on display since Friday evening and is aready causing a lot of interest.

The plan was it would only be on display for a weekend but because of the interest we have decided to display it for a little longer, but cannot guarantee when we will require to take it down, as we are due to close for the winter very soon.
It is on display in front of the 'Royal Crimean' tablecover by Menzies Moffat.(1829-1907).

The photograph does not do its justice and it really has to be seen, along with the other items on display, to appreciate its size.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Queen Victoria’s 200th Commemoration Costume Display are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment. All information (whether in text or photographs) is given in good faith but should not be relied upon as being a statement of representation or fact.
