About Autumn Explorers

Learn about beavers, bats, bugs and some other animals that live in Scotland today, as well as animals that lived here in the past.

Please book your family’s place on a session in the Orientation Area on arrival.

Animal Tales
Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th October
10:30, 12:00, 13:30 & 15:00 (30 min)

Limited places, sign up on the day

Join storyteller Allison for two engaging animal tales. Find out why wolves and bears disappeared from Britain, and how domestic dogs became our best friends. Then hear the story of a very busy beaver who helped to make new homes for other wild creatures here in Scotland. Suitable for children aged 2-8 and their adults.

Willow Wanders
Thursday 14th & Friday 15th October

10:30, 12:00, 13:30 & 15:00 (40 min)

Join Dan the Story Man as he bends and twists his way around the many willow sculptures that have popped up all over the museum site. At each sculpture on this outdoor trail, Dan will regale you with tales of dashing hares, soaring buzzards and courageous pigs. Suitable for children aged 4-10 and their adults.

Ranger Walks
Tuesday 12th – Friday 15th October

11:30 & 14:30 (45-60 min)

Limited places, sign up on the day

Join our countryside ranger to discover what wildlife lives on and around our farm. Get to know your roe deer signs, what the local bats are up to, how to identify different trees and much more. Suitable for children age 7+ and their adults.

The ranger walk is outside, so remember your wellies!

National Trust for Scotland Members free (additional charge for some events)
