To help everyone enjoy the winter months and get that Christmas spirit burning inside, North Lanarkshire Libraries are working with Summerlee Museum to provide a day full of fun activities for all the family.

Join us at Summerlee Museum for Winterfest on Saturday 4 December where you can enjoy author visits, singing taster sessions, visits from Therapets and more.

To attend drop-in sessions, you will need to book a ticket to enter Summerlee Museum. Book your Summerlee Museum ticket.

To attend a ticketed session, pre-booking is required. Please use the links provided in the listing below to ensure your place at these sessions.

Singing Taster
Reigart Suite, 11am – 12noon

Do you like to sing in the bath? Hum along to the radio in the car? Our singing groups are perfect for honing your skills in a fun friendly environment, not to mention the health benefits derived from singing in a group. Interested in giving it a try?

Active Health Demonstration
Reigart Suite, 12noon – 1pm

Phantom the Ginger Mog
Reigart Suite, 2pm – 3pm

Hear how Phantom the Ginger Mog gets a lift home from a very special person on Christmas Eve. Then… let’s draw that Ginger Mog in a lovely Crumpy Christmas scene. Don’t to wear something Christmassy.

Bookbug
Exhibition Hall, 11am – 12noon

A Christmassy-themed session of songs and stories for carers and pre-fives.

David Macphail and the Vikings
Conference Room, 11.30am – 12noon and 12.30pm – 1pm

We are delighted to welcome renowned children’s author David Macphail to Winterfest, who will bring his own brand of kids’ comedy and historical fiction to Summerlee. Join us for what should be a cracking session.

Therapets
Downstairs Pod, 1pm – 2pm

Come and meet some very gentle and beautiful dogs, brought to us by the charity Therapets. These dogs just love being read to by children and children, in turn, find their confidence in reading grows by doing this. If you just want a cuddle and to stroke these adorable canines, then that’s fine too.

David McClure – Any Broken Biscuits
Exhibition Hall, 11am – 3pm

Throughout the day there will be a local author, David McClure, available to speak about his writing and sign copies of his book Any Broken Biscuits? which traces his life, growing up in a large family in Coatbridge.

Airdrie Library Knit and Natter Group
Exhibition Hall, 11am – 3pm

Our Knit and Natter group at Airdrie Library will visiting Winterfest to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by selling knitwear created by the group.

Compton Cinema Organ
Exhibition Hall, 2pm – 3pm

Visit the Exhibition Hall and enjoy a short festive programme played on the historic and magnificent Compton Cinema Organ.

Guided Walk
Miners’ Row, 1pm – 2pm

Enjoy a guided walk around the museum gardens tended by the Macmillan in Lanarkshire Gardening Volunteers.

Airdrie Observatory and Airdrie Astronomical Association
Exhibition Hall, 11am – 3pm

Members of the Airdrie Astronomical Association will be on hand to give more information about the group and how they use the historic and unique Observatory hosted within Airdrie Library.

Vertical Strip Christmas Card
Exhibition Hall, 11am – 2pm

Design your own unique vertical strip Christmas card. Combine two Archives images to create a surprising new effect for a festive card that will intrigue and delight family and friends.
