Taking place between 7-18th June, the festival, which is going online for the first time, has an interactive programme packed full of events and activities which aim to encourage creativity, imagination and literacy in young people after a challenging year of home-schooling.
UKSE, the Tata Steel subsidiary, has donated £2,500 to Glasgow Life, organisers of Wee Write!, to enable 13 Cambuslang primary schools to attend the digital festival. The funding will be used to enable schools to access ‘festival passes’ to the programme of events and book voucher scheme, as well as downloadable learning resources.
The schools benefiting from UKSE’s support include; Newton Farm, West Coats, Hallside and Park View primaries.
Throughout the 2021 edition of the festival, pupils will be able to see and hear from a variety of award-winning authors and creatives including former Blue Peter presenter Konni Huq, Francesca Simon author of the Horrid Henry series, and former children’s laureate, Chris Riddell.
UKSE has supported the festival for a number of years, providing funding in both 2018 and 2020.
Scott Webb, area manager at UKSE, said: “Young people and their families have faced a challenging year when it comes to education. Home-schooling and reduced school terms will have put pressure on children and their parents, so we’re proud to continue providing the opportunity for Cambuslang schools to participate in this inspired event.
“Reading is about more than just learning, it encourages creativity, helps spark new ideas and imaginations, and can really bring families and friends together. We can’t wait to hear how our donation has made a difference to the local Cambuslang pupils.”
