About Chatelherault Country Park

Chatelherault Country Park, a five star visitor attraction under the Visit Scotland grading scheme, has been described as a Jewel in the Landscape.

Chatelherault was built on 1732 by the Scottish architect William Adam as a hunting lodge for the Dukes and Duchess's of Hamilton.

Chatelherault is available for functions ranging from meetings and training courses to banquets and wedding ceremonies.

Chatelherault Country Park offers a fun packed diverse programme of events and activities throughout the year including:

• Guided walks and tours
• Treasure hunts
• Seasonal and themed events
• Art and photographic displays

Opening hours

Open all year excluding Christmas and New Year public holidays.

Visitors centre
Monday to Sunday 10am - 5pm (Entry Free)

Lodge House
Sunday to Thursday 10am - 4.30pm (Entry Free)


The entrance to the country park is within the village of Ferniegair, 2.5 km south east of Hamilton on the A72 Hamilton, Larkhall / Lanark, Clyde Valley tourist route.

The park is also accessible by train with daily half hour service stopping at the Chatelherault station on the Hamilton, Larkhall line.


Visitor centre, café, gallery, conference and wedding facilities and play area. In the surrounding country park are over 10 miles of walks through ancient woodlands and along the dramatic Avon Gorge - the Park's greatest natural asset.

Disabled access

There is disabled parking and toilets available within the park, which are well signposted on information boards throughout the park.
