A number of free natural play sessions have been coordinated throughout the summer holidays by Heritage Lottery Fund supported Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP) in partnership with Big Bird Nursey in Larkhall, Clydesdale Community Initiatives, Music with Ann Dante, RSPB Scotland Baron’s Haugh, Scottish Wildlife Trust Falls of Clyde, South Lanarkshire Countryside Ranger Service and Wild About Lanark.
People will be invited to book their children onto the numerous natural play sessions and be encouraged to share resources and their experiences on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #WildTimeLAN.
WildTimeLAN has been developed to support parents and guardians in natural play, showing that any woodland, park, garden or little patch of land can be turned into an adventure playground. All that’s required is a little imagination!
The campaign is part of a wider network of natural play focussed initiatives supported by CAVLP, such as the creation of the award winning natural play and picnic park, Clearburn, at New Lanark. It also sits within growing national and international concerns about decreased ‘wild time’ in today’s society.
“Through the WildTimeLAN campaign, we're asking people to simply 'go out to play' and share their ideas, photos and favourite places,” explains Karen Dobbins, Community Engagement Officer at CAVLP. “It doesn't matter whether people go to the wonderful woodlands and parks in the Clyde and Avon Valleys or have a favourite place at the end of their street. We're just asking people to get out there and encourage others to do the same. There will also be a range of events organised by our partners, from den building to woodland arts and crafts to give people inspiration.”
The following free WildTimeLAN sessions are being offered, but please check www.clydeandavonvalley.org for further sessions which may be added throughout the summer:
