The park features beautiful garden areas, a Wildflower & Tree Trail, picnic benches, children’s play area and Horticulture Centre. The park is situated near the former site of Lanark Castle where the Sheriff of Lanark was slain by William Wallace in revenge for the murder of Marion Braidfute in 1297.
Castlebank Horticultural Centre
At Castlebank Horticultural Centre, we strive to promote the principles of inclusivity for all, respect for the environment and all living things within it, expanding our knowledge about the natural world, and promoting the physical and mental health benefits of adopting a balanced lifestyle through engagement with the natural world around us.
The first phase of Castlebank Horticultural Centre, the growing compound opened in May 2014. The second phase, the Community Hub, opened in November 2018 and is now home to a full-time Educational Gardener and a year-long programme of educational activities, volunteering opportunities and community events.
The centre is managed by Lanark Community Development Trust. Proceeds from the centre’s activities and hires are returned to the Development Trust to reinvest in the centre, and the ongoing development and maintenance of the Castlebank Park gardens.
