With winds of 50 to 60 mph forecast for this coming weekend, organisers have taken the difficult decision to postpone Springfest, one of Scotland’s largest food and drink festivals, due to safety concerns. Held at Loch Lomond Shores annually, each spring, this is the first festival that has had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
Now scheduled to be held on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May, the festival, which normally welcomes around 15,000 people over the weekend, is the first major festival in Loch Lomond Shores calendar of events.
Commenting on the postponement, Audrey Calder from Loch Lomond Shores said: “We are devastated that we have had to postpone Springfest but, ultimately, the safety of all those involved, and our festival attendees is the most important factor.
“We can cope with pretty much all weather conditions, but wind is one where we just can’t compromise. Our loch-side location is spectacular but it also means that we are exposed when high winds occur. Our festival is made up of many temporary structures that are not built to withstand winds of the forecast magnitude.
“Given all this, the only thing to do is postpone this popular festival and hope for kinder weather on the 18th and 19th of May, when all our vendors, entertainment, activities and demonstrations planned for this weekend, will be here for a delayed Springfest.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this change may cause to those planning to visit us this weekend but, we also hope that it will assure them that their safety is of paramount importance to us.”
