Lanternhouse Cinema, housed within Cumbernauld Theatre at Lanternhouse, is a purpose-built 83-seat cinema, aiming to bring the best cinema experiences and events to the communities of Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire and beyond.
This hidden gem, which has recently celebrated two years since its opening, promotes a warm and comfy cinematic atmosphere in the heart of Cumbernauld.
This major development for the town’s cultural landscape and for its local attendees promotes a great selection of films, including the newest releases, which are perfect for every film aficionado. Its recent screenings of Dune: Part Two, starring Timothée Chalamet and of Challengers, starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, are examples of the quality of screening the space hosts.
Sarah Price, Chief Executive Officer of Cumbernauld Theatre Trust, said: “If you love a good film, and want to immerse yourself without distraction in a great story, our comfortable and intimate cinema is a great way to spend your ‘time off’. With screenings during the day or evening most days, there’s always something on, so look us up and come along.”
Lindsay Attwood, Customer Service and Cinema Manager at Cumbernauld Theatre Trust said: “It is a real pleasure to programme the films at Lanternhouse Cinema. We have such a wide choice of films that we get so many different members of our community through the doors each week and it is a joy to hear their feedback and see how much finally having a cinema in the town means to them.”
The state-of-the-art cinema also organises regular special events, which include Sing-A-Longs and a Musical Theatre series, as well as live broadcasts from the National Theatre and Royal Opera House. In May, attendees saw Help I S*xted My Boss Live, a hit comedy podcast starring TikTok sensation William Hanson and new host of Capital Breakfast, Jordan North. This was broadcast live from the London Palladium and brought to the comfort of Lanternhouse Cinema.
Special screenings also include regular club events such as Toddler Tuesday, which screens popular family-friendly releases in an environment best suited for young children. The recent showing of Combat Wombat: Double Trouble allowed attendees to enjoy the new release with adapted measures such as softer lighting and sound levels, as well as free movement around the cinema.
Tickets for Lanternhouse and a list of programme can be booked and found online at lanternhousearts.org or by phoning the box office at 01236 732 887.
