Each charity will receive a share of £1 million this year through the funding programme created to deliver ongoing financial and non-financial support to children, young people and family charities in Scotland.
Since its inception in 2011, STV Children’s Appeal has invested in long-term projects with charitable organisations. The Ignite Fund, a key part of the Appeal, will continue to provide sustained, multi-year financial and development aid to charities across the country to help break the cycle of child poverty in Scotland.
Glasgow charities which will receive funding are: Glasgow Kelvin College’s Community and Youth Hub which provides accessible, after-hours learning and wellbeing activities for disadvantaged people and groups; One Community Scotland’s programme of interactive workshops and creative arts sessions designed to educate and empower vulnerable young people away from anti-social activity, and Community Volunteers Enabling You’s (COVEY) Flourishing Families project which provides one-to-one and group support for families and young people during key school transitions to improve well-being and confidence.
The Fund will also partner with charities across Scotland, each chosen for its commitment to tackling the root causes of poverty and for offering tangible, scalable solutions—an ethos shared by the Appeal.
The STV Children’s Appeal will work closely with the Ignite partners to identify goals, needs, and opportunities for growth, aiming to drive both immediate improvements and lasting systemic change. The initiative will include the launch of the Ignite Academy which will offer charity partners access to STV’s in-house expertise (such as marketing, communications, and creative), while fostering a peer network for knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Natalie Wright, Head of STV Children’s Appeal, said: “At STV Children’s Appeal, we have always focused on ensuring the funding we give is well thought through and with a purpose, which is exactly what we are doing with The Ignite Fund. Our experience shows that a sustained approach to our partnerships gives real results which make an immediate and lasting impact to those who need it most.
“We’re excited to welcome Glasgow Kelvin College and COVEY back for their second year of funding, and to have One Community Scotland on board for the beginning of a fruitful relationship.”
The Community and Youth Hub at Glasgow Kelvin College is in its second year of partnership with STV Children’s Appeal and provides accessible, after-hours learning and wellbeing activities for people in some of the city’s most disadvantaged communities. The partnership has developed a programme of vocational training opportunities, with integrated health and wellbeing support, for individuals and families to combat isolation, build resilience, and create pathways to education and employment.
Tracy Leavy, Director of Community Engagement and Curriculum at Glasgow Kelvin College said: “STV Children’s Appeal funding has made a huge difference to the young people and families we support. We’ve seen individuals gain new confidence, skills, and even career paths, that they never imagined possible. Most importantly, they’ve reconnected with others and with life’s opportunities. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who donates and fundraises; your support is truly life changing.”
The Ignite Fund will also continue to support the Flourishing Families project by Lanarkshire based COVEY. The initiative tackles child poverty and enhances school engagement through a whole-family approach which focuses on early intervention during the critical transition phase from primary to secondary school and enjoyed huge success in 2023-2024 thanks to the funding.
Lee Johnstone, CEO at COVEY explained: “Since partnering with STV Children’s Appeal, our Flourishing Families project has made great strides in supporting young people and families across Lanarkshire with wellbeing, confidence, and re-engagement in education. In the 2024/25 school year, we’ve supported 21 families, including 27 children and young people, with 92% of young people reporting improved school attendance, engagement, or attainment, 100% of young people reporting improved health and wellbeing, and 87% of families reporting stronger relationships at home. Joining the Ignite Fund will help us grow our team and support even more families.”
