Water is a major feature of this eleven-and-a-half-acre garden with a lochan, river and many wildlife ponds. Wilderness areas provide valuable biodiversity with a wide variety of habitats for flora and fauna, including a family of swans. Many varieties of primula provide a mass of colour in the extensive bog garden, and the rhododendrons and azaleas will still be in bloom. A small parterre offers more formal seclusion. The walled garden's features include a terrace with two Italianate ponds and sitooteries and below, a further terrace with a grotto, leading to a gentle trough cascade which feeds a rill.
Directions: The garden can be found just off the A702 in the village of Dolphinton.
Stout shoes recommended. There will be a variety of activities for the young folk. Old and young alike will be fascinated by the live moths collected from the garden and presented by a local lepidopterist.
