Pelts is a six-piece band Glasgow. They are…
Graham McCarey – vocals & guitar
Natasha Redmehr – vocals
Olly Stockman – guitar, keys & gizmos
Ralph Hector – keys
Stuart Brown – bass
Ben Brown (no relation) – drums
The initial idea was that, after many years of making intense dark music, some joy was called for. A new genre, Gospel Shoegaze, was mooted. Try as they might though, somehow the darkness always crept back in, but always with an eye for beauty, and an ear for wit. Ralph resisted being drawn in on a permanent basis at first, but he couldn’t hold out forever and he has been an integral part of the family for some time now.
A series of singles, gradually over the next few years, charts the development of the Pelts sound. Firstly fairly embryonic with ‘Footage’ and ‘Ghostie’.. followed by the far more assured series of double a-sides, ‘Black Feathers’/’The Severed Sea’, ‘The Tingles’/’Less Than Three’ and ‘Another Place’/’Who Could Love Me Now?’.
The doubles were all well received, most of all the last of the three, both sides of which were played on BBC 6 Music by Steve Lamacq, with ‘Another Place’ making into The Herald’s Top 50 Scottish Songs of 2018.
In September 2020, the time had finally come to release the first Pelts album. ‘A Little Less Lost’ is a pure and heady distillation of who Pelts are as a group of people, and its songs are steeped in the story and the journey that had brought them to that point. A big hit with fans and critics alike.
Now that we’re gradually emerging from the pandemic shadow, Pelts are preparing their second album and readying to return to the live arena, with a whole new widescreen canvas to share with the waiting world.
Pelts performs as part our Emerging Music series of Scotland’s rising music talent in the Lanternhouse Studio Theatre.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
