As part of our Museums Galleries Scotland funded project and to mark the end of our showcase exhibition National Treasure: South Lanarkshire’s Sir Harry Lauder Collection, we are delighted to present Lauder at Low Parks Museum.
Lauder is a gem of a show about a legendary Scottish entertainer, whose songs are familiar to us all. Known for songs including I Love a Lassie, Roamin’ in the Gloamin’ and Keep Right on to The End of the Road, by 1911 Harry Lauder had become the highest-paid performer in the world and an international star of music hall, vaudeville and recordings.
Lauder looks beyond the image to reveal a man of mischief and ingenuity, an entrepreneur and, above all, a philanthropist who raised an epic amount of money for the wounded soldiers of the First World War. This is the incredible story of one of the world’s first superstars, an original thinker, a man of vision and humour whose real life inspires, more than the larger-than-life characters he created.
‘This is a joyful experience, both to watch and to feel a part of. MacDougall is a fine tenor and his beautiful diction and impressive acting skills showcase Lauder’s work at its very best.’ Glasgow Theatre Blog
