Celebrate World Rum Day (13th July) with four delicious rums from Island Slice! Whether you prefer dark, spiced or white rum, you’re sure to find something to delight the tastebuds this summer!
Born in St. Lucia, Sylvester Herman's journey to becoming a rum producer is as rich and complex as his spirits.
What began as a small operation selling rum punch cocktails quickly gained momentum. At his first market event at Lomond Shores, Sylvester arrived with 250 bottles expected to last the weekend – they sold out by 2pm on the first day. He rushed home to make more, returning with 500 bottles that also quickly sold out.
Initially blending and spicing shop-bought rums, Sylvester's entrepreneurial journey took a significant turn when an HMRC representative, impressed by his knowledge and passion, encouraged him to distil his own rum. With his first still crafted from the parts of an immersion heater, IslandSlice truly began to take shape.
"I'm proud Scottish and I'm proud St. Lucian," says Sylvester. "With my rum, I'm bringing the two together."
Meet Sylvester and learn more about his story and his spirits, and try four superb rums:
White Rum (marvellous in a mojito!), Island Single Dark Rum (matured in Speyside whisky casks creating a superb sipping rum), Spiced Rum (ideal for a Cuba Libre), and the deliciously unique Scotch Bonnet Rum (guaranteed to add a kick to any cocktail!).
