Good Guy Hank is a Scotland–Australia trio blending country, bluegrass, Americana, soul, and pop influences. Formed in 2019 after a spontaneous jam at Dunkeld’s renowned Taybank pub, the group—Donny McElligott (vocals, guitar), Theo Barnard (double bass, vocals), and Pepita Emmerichs (fiddle, mandolin, vocals)—first united over their love of Hank Williams before evolving into a unique fusion of styles.
Each member brought distinct influences: Appalachian drive (Theo), pop-inspired arrangements (Pepita), and soulful Americana vocals (Donny). During lockdown, they honed original material together in Donny’s summer house, which later inspired their album artwork. Their music features soulful harmonies, spirited instrumentation, and a wide range of musical inspirations from Lucinda Williams to Nathaniel Rateliff.
Their debut album Silver Lining features contributions from guest musicians including Ross Ainslie, Allison de Groot, Stuart Nisbet, and Kirsten Adamson, alongside Pepi’s signature string arrangements. Released on August, 2024, to critical acclaim, it received radio play on BBC, RRR, Avondale Radio and Celtic Radio, and was named Album of the Week on the legendary Iain Anderson’s show.
This concert at the Granary is part of their UK and Europe tour.
Their performances promise heartfelt, original Americana that blends joy, dance, and emotion.
