Scottish stars Alan Cumming, Ally McCoist, Annie Lennox, Blue Rose Code, Sir Chris Hoy, Irvine Welsh, Janey and Ashley Godley, Judy Murray, Lorne Balfe, Mark Bonnar, Rachel Sermani, Sanjeev Kohli, Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai) and Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian) join the show on Wednesday 22nd April to raise urgent funds for Masks for Scotland.
The evening will include music, literature, poetry and chats with Scotland’s favourite stars, as well as stories submitted from the public about the incredible community spirit being seen across the country during this difficult time. Aiming to help the Masks for Scotland fundraiser reach its target of £200,000, the livestream will provide a night of entertainment as well as convey fans and stars’ thanks to medical staff across Scotland.
Singer, songwriter, campaigner and activist Annie Lennox is a huge addition to ‘For the Love of Scotland’ and as one of the most outstanding musical voices of our time, Annie Lennox’s performance on Wednesday’s livestream will be extremely special. Sports stars Ally McCoist, Sir Chris Hoy and Judy Murray join the line-up as well as a host of outstanding Scottish musicians including; Blue Rose Code, Rachel Sermani, Belle and Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch, Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai, while mother-daughter comedic duo Janey Godley and Ashley Storrie will provide the laughs. Author Irvine Welsh will join the livestream, as well as stars from film and TV including composer Lorne Balfe plus actors Mark Bonnar and Sanjeev Kohli, as well as Alan Cumming, who will treat viewers to a singalong of a song he wrote to keep everyone's spirits up during lockdown!
The Masks for Scotland crowdfunding initiative was founded by Professor Jill Belch of the University of Dundee, in response to the urgent need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for community frontline medical teams across Scotland. 100% of the money raised will fund the provision of PPE for key workers across the country, and with Masks for Scotland already raising over £80,000 in just over a week, the first orders of PPE are set to arrive in Scotland this week.
Edith Bowman will host the charity livestream on Gigs In Scotland’s social channels from 6pm – 9pm on Wednesday 22nd April. Viewers can tune into the stream on the Gigs in Scotland Facebook or YouTube and enjoy musical performances from Annie Lennox, KT Tunstall, Rachel Sermani, Sam McTrusty (Twin Atlantic) and Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian), plus more to be announced. Actors and writers from across Scotland will join Edith Bowman for interviews, poetry readings and even a cocktail class!
With more talent and performances to be announced, ‘For the Love of Scotland’ looks set to be a night to remember in an unmissable show of support for the country’s community frontline staff.
