We live in a very unique location with the Royal Burgh of Lanark, New Lanark World Heritage Site and the Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve – all on our doorstep! A group of organisations who represent these three areas are working hard on a plan named The Vision for Lanark (#LanarkVision) to help make this a better place to live, and to help spread the word far and wide about our special place ‘Lanark, New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde’.
Young people are the future of this area, so we’d like to know what your thoughts are! We are launching a Young People’s Photo Challenge to give all Primary and Secondary School students in this area the chance to have their say. The project is about Lanark and its surrounding area but any Grammar school pupils living outside the area may also take part, as long as their photographs are of the Lanark area.
The challenge is simple and involves two parts:
1) take a photo of a place nearby that means something to you; this could be of Lanark, New Lanark or the Falls of Clyde; and
2) in max 200 words tell us why you have chosen this place, and what you could do to make it better.
We want to know why you think it is special. Do other people know about it? If it is a place you really don’t like – we want to hear about that too! What’s wrong with it? How could it be improved?
We are offering a prize to the winner and the runner up in each of three school year categories and all the entries will be considered as part of the public response to the consultation currently taking place in the community on how to make Lanark and its surrounding area a better place to live, work and enjoy.
Please read below for the challenge’s full terms and conditions.
Prizes are sponsored by Border Biscuits Community Support Fund.
Terms and conditions:
• The competition is being organised by the Lanark Community Development Trust on behalf of the Vision for Lanark partnership.
• The photo challenge runs from 8th – 31st October 2020.

• The text to accompany the photograph should be no more than 200 words.
• Photographs can be either portrait or landscape format and can be taken on a phone, DSLR or digital camera.
