David Livingstone Birthplace, which reopens to the public on Wednesday 28 July, was delighted to receive a £200 donation from the Asda Foundation’s Green Tokens Scheme and a huge selection of over 200 bedding plants and climbers from local supermarket Asda Blantyre.
The plants which were collected from the store by the team, will be planted by the Museum’s gardening volunteers, who have been working at the Museum over the last couple of months to help complete the external landscaping works.
Mary Sutherland, Community Colleague at Asda Blantyre said: “Asda Blantyre is delighted to support the Birthplace of Blantyre’s most famous Son. We have missed going to the Birthplace and are very excited that it will be reopening soon. We hope that our donation will go some way to ensuring the newly renovated building and grounds will look fantastic when they reopen this summer.”
This much needed support comes at a time when the David Livingstone Birthplace Museum is just weeks away from reopening (28 July) and the new playpark and cafe are already welcoming crowds of visitors after reopening on Thursday 1 July.
Grant Mackenzie, Interim Director of the David Livingstone Birthplace said: “We are delighted to receive support from Asda locally and have a great team of volunteers onsite busy planting and landscaping the grounds of the Museum in time for our official reopening on 28 July.”
