After a year hiatus, Aldi’s hugely popular Supermarket Sweep returned to Scotland and lucky shopper Paula Robertson, who was chosen as the winner of an in-store competition, took part in the five-minute trolley dash for charity Tuesday 16th November.
As well as taking home a trolley full of goodies, Paula successfully found the three Scottish products on her shopping list, so Aldi doubled the total value of her haul and donated the lump sum to her nominated foodbank, Rutherglen & Cambuslang Foodbank.
Aldi Supermarket Sweep winner, Paula Robertson, said: “The Aldi Supermarket Sweep was a great experience. I had such a great time, and I am really pleased to have been given the opportunity to help my local foodbank.”
Kathleen Duncan, Secretary, Rutherglen & Cambuslang Foodbank, said: “We had such fun at Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep. The event was so well organised, and all the Aldi staff were really engaged and helpful. Paula did a marvellous job.
“We are so grateful to be chosen as the recipient of the generation donation. This money will help our dedicated volunteers continue to supply food in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area to those who need it most. The money will also go towards purchasing duvets, blankets and fleeces which will help keep people warm in the coming cold months.
“Without the generous support and help from Aldi, we couldn’t do this valuable and necessary work so effectively. I’d like to thank Aldi and offer our warmest wishes for its continued success in our area.”
Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director for Scotland, said: “The Aldi Supermarket Sweep is a firm favourite across the country, and we are so pleased to be able to bring it back after a year hiatus. Congratulations to Paula who managed to raise an incredible £931.32 for Rutherglen & Cambuslang Foodbank and take home a trolley full of Aldi goodies for herself.”
The Supermarket Sweep was run in line with current COVID-19 guidelines and all safety precautions, including social distancing, were adhered to.
Social Bite has taken a significant step forward in its mission with permission granted yesterday from South Lanarkshire Council on a proposed Social Bite Village in Rutherglen.
