Beat the Street East Kilbride is being played once again in support of Scotland’s ambitious plans to improve air quality and to reduce pollution and congestion.
The six-week game encourages people to walk, cycle and wheel for prizes; it started on 18th September and takes place until 30th October.
So far, 12,167 participants have signed up and have together walked, cycled, run, scooted and wheeled nearly 60,000 miles across the game area.
This is the game’s Go Explore themed week where there will be double points on Beat Boxes 81 and 74 all day on Saturday, 5th October for anyone visiting Calderglen Country Park to discover the history behind Torrance Castle. There will also be triple points on certain Beat Boxes over the weekend around East Kilbride!
There’s still time to sign up and get involved in Beat the Street East Kilbride. Cards are available from the distribution centres on the list at www.beatthestreet.me/eastkilbride or alternatively, players over the age of 13 can download the free Beat the Street app.
Players then join a school, community, workplace or charity team; plus participants can help Kilbryde Hospice to win £500.
Currently, St Kenneth’s Primary School is top of the total leaderboards with Crosshouse Primary School in second place and Our Lady of Lourdes in third. On the average points leaderboard, EKCC juniors are top with Greenburn Primary School in second place and Threshold in third.
Beat the Street East Kilbride is being delivered by Intelligent Health on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council. The project is supported by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and is funded by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.
The Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “It’s amazing how differently you see things when you’re on foot or on a bike that you just don’t experience when you’re in a car. The Beat the Street game is encouraging people to get to know the town with bonus points on offer on some Beat Boxes to help you get out and about and to find new routes to school or work, plus other local areas you may not have known about.”
