The Beat the Street challenge taking place across Cambuslang and Rutherglen has now concluded and the winners have been announced!

The Beat the Street CamGlen game saw 9,295 people of all ages get involved in the giant active travel competition, working together to walk, cycle and wheel as far as possible for points and prizes in a real-life six-week game.

Together, the community clocked up 83,046 miles. Despite narrowly missing the mileage target, this means that Kilbryde Hospice will receive a total of £500 from the game’s organisers.

Councillor Robert Brown, South Lanarkshire Council’s Chair of Community and Enterprise Resources said: “Well done to everyone of every age and ability who took part in our Beat the Street CamGlen game. The aim of Beat the Street is to encourage communities to consider walking, cycling, running, scooting or wheel those shorter journeys, including to work or to school. The Beat the Street game is a celebration of coming together as a community and everyone who got involved should be proud of their efforts in this community initiative.”

Beat the Street Cambuslang and Rutherglen is being delivered by Intelligent Health on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council. The project is supported by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and is funded by the Scottish Government’s People and Place Programme, administered through Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.
