Strathaven Model Society Ltd operates the miniature railway in Strathaven Park in South Lanarkshire. This is now the oldest continuously running miniature railway in Scotland, with our passenger hauling trains running from 14th May 1949 (nearly 75 years ago at time of writing).
Our trains run from late March/early April till the last weekend of September at weekends and public holidays, weather permitting.
Our original steam locomotive (Margaret), which was running on the first operating day all those years ago, is still running well and can be seen in steam on special occaisions throughout the year. She has been lovingly rebuilt and maintained over the years by our dedicated team at SMS Ltd. From the start until now the miniature railway has used different modes of locomotive power (Steam, Petrol & Electric) with steam still being the most popular with young and old alike.
“The Wee Train”, as it is fondly referred to by locals, is celebrating its 75 years of steam in the park during 2024 with great enthusiasm and paticipation from visitors and enthusiasts from all round Britain and further afield, joining the special events that will be held during this exciting year.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
