In addition to the popular Amazing Honeybee exhibition, the centre has been working with environmental specialists, Zoolab, to create two fascinating wildlife workshops on 8th and 15th April, complete with creepy crawlies, snakes, tarantulas, and other exotic creatures.
To add to the fun, and fresh from his starring role in EK Comic Con, Transformer, Bumblebee will also be popping in on 2nd and 7th April to learn more about the centre’s honeybee population, and also pose for some selfies.
Commenting on the Easter fun, Centre Manager, Alan Smillie, said: “Spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate the new season than with a hive of free wildlife activities. Zoolab’s fascinating workshops are sure to enthral old and young alike, while our bee exhibition is packed with fascinating facts and figures on the centre’s honeybee hives. You can even get an Easter selfie next to our giant bees and flowers.”
Rob Hunt at Zoolab, added: “We can't wait to tell everyone about these fascinating creatures and the amazing things they can do to help our wildlife and support bees, like those here at the centre. Attendees will have the chance to get up close to snakes, tarantulas, cockroaches, giant snails and more, and learn why these animals are so important to the environment. It’s sure to be an unforgettable experience.”
The Amazing Bees exhibition has been organised with support from Scottish sustainable honey company, Webster Honey, who manage the shopping and leisure centre’s four honeybee colonies on the roof of Centre West.
Running through April, the display will include a host of honeybee facts and figures, giant bees, and mammoth flowers - ideal for a quick selfie. There will also be a full size empty hive that will allow visitors to get an up close view of where the bees live.
Visitors to the exhibition will also learn how to give these incredible insects a much needed boost, with a guide to the best ‘bee friendly’ flowers to plant in the garden.
The Zoolab sessions will take place between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 8th and Saturday 15th April, while Bumblebee will be in the centre from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday 2nd and Friday 7th April. The Amazing Bee display will run from 1st April to 30th April. Entry for the display and workshops is free.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
