This 3d mask workshop is a playful introduction to the art of creative mapping and mask making, a fun way to creatively explore different landscapes through the eyes of all the different Scottish wildlife that cohabit in Palacerigg.
We will begin our workshop visiting The Scottish Wildlife Mural, painted by Alasdair Gray in the entrance foyer of the Palacerigg Visitor Centre in 1974. The mural was commissioned by naturalist, writer and journalist David Stephen, who was closely involved in the planning of Palacerigg Country Park and Visitor Centre and its emphasis on wildlife conservation and education.
We will then be collecting found nature and observing and documenting the landscape through the eyes of different wildlife using different creative techniques using personal mobile phones, photography, drawings, and frottage rubbing techniques.
We will then return to our park art studio to make our wildlife and nature inspired masks. Everyone will be invited to wear/display their mask in the park landscape.
This event is free and all art materials will be provided.
This is family friendly event where all ages are welcome, however, younger children (under 8s) would need to be helped to build their mask. All children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
Meet outside the Palacerigg Visitors Centre - https://goo.gl/maps/K5K4Su3o6MTUndAB7?coh=178571&entry=tt at the start time of the session.
ABOUT THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
During the summer and autumn, two artists will use the nature and biodiversity in North Lanarkshire’s Country Parks to inspire schools, community groups and visitors to create their own artwork. The two artists in residence are Gill White and Kathryn Hanna.
Gill White is a multidisciplinary artist working in art, design, and film. Her public art and participatory art projects actively encourage spending time in nature, exploring the great outdoors by celebrating what makes a place unique. Her work blends visual art, design, film, and storytelling. Many of her projects are fun, playful experiences designed to spark people’s imagination and to actively encourage a culture of creative collaboration.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
