Aspiring actress Eve Harrington shows up sad and forlorn in the dressing room of Broadway mega-star Margo Channing.
She tells a melancholy but engrossing life story of growing up poor in Wisconsin and losing her young husband during World War II.
Margo feels so sorry for Eve that she takes her under her wing – even taking her to live in her own home.
Eve turns out to be extremely capable… and more than a little manipulative.
Acting as both secretary and adoring fan, she manoeuvres herself into Channing’s life, ultimately threatening Margo’s career, her friendships and her personal relationship.
