We are delighted to present our 2025 – 26 concert series – our first season of nine concerts at Christ Church. We continue to enjoy the generous hospitality of Canon Drew Sheridan who has provided us with a fantastic new venue and home for our magnificent Kawai grand piano.
Saturday 6th September: Patrick Hemmerlé
The maverick French pianist is one of the most talented, idealistic and idiosyncratic of musicians. Shunning fame because he prefers the intimacy of small venues, he delights in innovative and stimulating programming. We understand he will become only the second pianist in history to play these two sets of variations at the same concert. In 2013 András Schiff performed them to sell-out crowds at these vast venues: Carnegie Hall, New York; Walt Disney Hall, L.A., and Jordon Hall, Boston. You have the chance to hear them up close and personal in these wonderful acoustics, and on one of the best instruments in the south of Scotland.
J. S. Bach: Goldberg Variations BWV 988
Beethoven: Diabelli Variations Op.120
Saturday 11th October: Little Sparrow
Little Sparrow is singer/songwriter Katie Ware, a title that came from Elbow front man Guy Garvey affectionately calling her ‘Cockney Sparrow’ it led onto her stage name ‘Little Sparrow’.
Drawing influences from the likes of Kate Bush, P J Harvey and All About Eve, Little Sparrow’s music creates songs that are filled with a blend of styles, woven into the colourful tapestry of her music, often with a mysterious fairy tale quality.
Saturday 13th December: Rose Room
Voted ‘Best Band’ twice at the Scottish Jazz Awards, Rose Room are Scotland’s leading ensemble influenced by the Gypsy Jazz genre. Celebrating their 15th anniversary, they present a programme of ‘Hot Club’ standards, Gypsy Jazz favourites and self-penned originals with virtuosity, verve and panache recreating the excitement of Rive Gauche Paris.
Saturday 17th January: Elena Urioste (violin) and Tom Poster (piano)
International violinist Elena Urioste is joined by her husband Tom Poster for a programme inspired by their #UriPosteJukeBox. During the 2020 lockdown, as they shared 88 daily videos of listeners’ requests, earning them the Royal Philharmonic’s Inspiration Award, as well as a BBC Music Magazine Award for their subsequent Jukebox Album.
For the live Jukebox experience, the duo presents their trademark eclectic selection of music, ranging from classical gems to Tom’s Great American Songbook arrangements, from jazz standards to specially commissioned works and more! During the concert, audience members will also have a chance to vote on what music they would most like to hear. Come and join us for a one-of-a-kind interactive Jukebox concert experience!
Saturday 28th March: Hyde Clarinet Quartet
Formed in 2020, the Hyde Clarinet Quartet is an exciting clarinet group made up of current Royal College of Music students and alumni. They are dedicated to performing new works, as well as exploring the diversity of the clarinet through an array of string quartet and choral repertoire. They won the RCM Ensemble Competition in 2024.
In Lanark they play a programme including music by Beethoven, Shostakovich, Florence Price, Borodin and Marcos Fernandez.
This concert is given with the generous support of the Tunnell Trust for Young Musicians.
Thursday 30th April: Musicians of the Yehudi Menuhin School
Music in Lanark is delighted to welcome back the young pianists and string players from the Yehudi Menuhin School for what has become one of the highlights of the season.
