Running in association with the well-known BBC programme ‘Stargazing LIVE’, this year’s event at New Lanark has been rescheduled to coincide with the BBC’s programme on TV and the next visible total solar eclipse.
After a hugely popular event last year, New Lanark have decided to run the Stargazing LIVE event over two nights so even more eager stargazers can get involved.
“Stargazing LIVE is always a wonderful event that people of any age can enjoy” Jane Masters, New Lanark Heritage Manager. “This year is going to be bigger than ever as we’re running over two nights, and Saturday night is almost sold out! Although tickets are limited we’ve still got good availability for Sunday night – so we’d urge people to book their tickets sooner rather than later”
Stargazing LIVE is being run in collaboration with a local group, the Clydesdale Astronomical Society (CAS) whose fascinating talk will be one of the highlights of the night.
“Everyone at CAS always has a fantastic time being part of Stargazing LIVE at New Lanark. We’re delighted to be involved again and have been looking forward to this year’s event for a while. With the event running over two nights we’ll have plenty of time to talk to people about the stars!” Alice-Amanda Kay, Chair of Clydesdale Astronomical Society.
Stargazing LIVE visitors will be able to try out Stargazing on Scotland’s largest Roof Garden at New Lanark, where the CAS team will be on hand to explain the skies or show visitors how to use their telescopes.
When visitors aren’t on the Roof Garden there will be plenty indoors to keep them entertained including a talk from CAS and a range of cosmic crafts suitable for young and old alike, including ‘make your own telescope’ and ‘build a jetpack’. Hot drinks, soup and snacks will be available to purchase from the Mill Café, and the Mill Shop will be open with gifts, Scottish crafts and textiles.
Booking is essential for Stargazing LIVE. Tickets are £4 per person, and can be purchased online at www.newlanark.org, by calling 01555 661345 or by emailing trust@newlanark.org
