Plans to develop Drumpellier Country Park as a gateway to the Seven Lochs Wetland Park will be on public display this month.
We are holding an information session on Saturday 23 January at the park Visitor Centre from 12.00pm to 4.00pm.
The plans include improvements to the Visitor Centre with a lochside viewing area, a crannog-themed interactive play area, enhanced landscaping, improvements for wildlife and an expanded programme of events.
Along with our partners in the Seven Lochs Heritage Gateway Project, we will be submitting an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for £550,000 towards the cost of the project. This will be supported by investment from the partners.
"Our plans for Drumpellier Park will bring the location's 10,000 year history to life, with interactive facilities to help visitors learn about its heritage and wildlife," said Councillor Helen McKenna, Convener of the Environmental Services Committee.
"These plans build on the council's recent £680,000 improvement programme which saw upgrading of the path network, additional parking and enhanced visitor facilities.
"The public will have a chance to see our vision for Drumpellier and give feedback at the information session on 23 January and via our web site. We hope people will like the plans and support our application to the Heritage Lottery Fund."
The Seven Lochs Wetland Park brings together 20 sq km of lochs, parks, nature reserves and woodlands between Glasgow and Coatbridge, encompassing seven lochs, five local nature reserves, a country park and one of Glasgow's oldest buildings at Provan Hall. Glasgow and Clyde Valley Green Network Partnership, Glasgow City Council, North Lanarkshire Council, Forestry Commission Scotland and others are working together to develop the park as a place for people, nature and heritage.
