This is a fun day out for the whole family to make the most of the Early May Bank Holiday, getting a taste of Scotland as well as picking up some beautiful gifts.
The Fair is being held in the forecourt and inside the Institute for the Formation of Character which celebrates its Bicentenary in 2016. Entry is free and the fair is open from 10am – 4pm.
Visitors will be able to choose from a range of Food Stalls selling tasty food such as burgers, cheese, pickles, condiments & a hog roast. This can all be washed down with a range of Drink Stalls selling everything from artisan coffee from Glasgow to locally made cider & beer.
For those with a sweet tooth, there will also be a range of Confectionary Stalls selling candy floss, fudge, tablet and lots of other sweet treats. There will even be a special Pop-Up New Lanark Ice Cream Parlour in the Institute’s River Room for children to make their own Ice Cream Sundaes.
At the Fair there will be a fantastic range of Craft Stalls from artisan makers selling glassware, handmade jewellery, cards, paper goods and woodwork. These will be accompanied a selection of Knitwear & Textiles Stalls, including New Lanark Wool & Textiles which is produced on-site using historic textile machinery.
There will also be plenty of Gift Stalls, giving visitors the chance to treat themselves or pick up a present for a loved one with Prints & Photos, Health & Beauty Products and Children’s Clothing.
Evelyn Whitelaw, New Lanark Events & Exhibitions Officer said “Our Food and Gift Fairs are always very popular. We hope that lots of people make it down the Fair to try some delicious local produce or pick up some beautiful handmade crafts. We have welcomed a diverse selection of brand new stalls this year, including a Hog Roast which we’re sure the visitors will love!”
The New Lanark Visitor Centre, New Lanark Mill Hotel, Mill Shop and Mill Café will all be open on Monday 2nd May. There are also a number of areas on-site to sit & enjoy the tasty food you pick up at the fair, including Clearburn Picnic & Play Area which was recently awarded ‘Best Heritage Picnic Spot UK’ at the Hudsons Heritage Awards.
