Pupils at St Elizabeth’s Primary School in Hamilton were treated to a visit from award-winning author AH (Angela) Proctor to celebrate World Book Day, courtesy of Barratt and David Wilson Homes.
The housebuilder also donated a series of books, signed by AH Proctor, from her popular ‘Thumble Tumble’ series which follow the adventures of a young witch from the magical Isle of Arran.
During last Thursday’s visit, the pupils enjoyed a sit-down reading session with Angela, followed by an interactive workshop that immersed the children in an imagination challenge involving role play and brainstorming with the characters from Thumble Tumble and the Ollpheist.
Mrs Jacqueline McGuire, Principal Teacher at St Elizabeth’s Primary School, said: “Staff and pupils at St Elizabeth’s Primary School would like to thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes for organising the session with Angela Proctor. The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing the tales of Thumble Tumble and I am sure they will enjoy reading the gifted novels and exploring the characters further. Working with the local community is something we always welcome and we hope to continue working with the housebuilder in 2025.”
Estelle Sykes, Sales Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes West Scotland, added: “Each year, we celebrate World Book Day by working with various schools across Scotland. Our new development at Cornhill Village is local to St Elizabeth’s Primary so we were eager start building a relationship with the school. Angela is a much-loved, fairytale author, so we hope her reading session inspires some creativity among the children.”
Angela Proctor said: “It’s always a pleasure to collaborate with primary schools, especially for World Book Day. Introducing pupils to the tales of Thumble Tumble and seeing them so inspired is something I take great pride in. These sessions are designed to encourage more children to get excited about reading and to lose themselves in the storyline and characters. I hope everyone at St Elizabeth’s enjoyed the workshop, I definitely did.”
St Elizabeth’s Primary is a local school to Barratt and David Wilson’s Cornhill Village development in Hamilton. The three and four-bedroom family homes start at £268,995.
