Strathaven Choral Society will extend a warm welcome to everyone coming to our concert The Auld Alliance on Saturday May 14th at 7pm, in Cadzow Parish Church, Woodside Walk, Hamilton.
The music will bring together Scotland and France with a suite of songs reflecting on the Jacobite rising of 1745 and Prince Charlie’s massive defeat at Culloden. This piece, by Ken Johnston, is unusual in that a reading sets the scene for each folk song setting. You will know some of the tunes well, I’m sure. The French connection comes via one of the choir’s favourites, Gabriel Faure’ s Requiem. This is a peaceful and comforting Requiem We are looking forward to working with Stephanie Stanway and Colin Murray, our two soloists who and both trained at Glasgow Conservatoire. Our conductor is Chris Barr originally from East Kilbride and our organist and pianist is our regular accompanist, Razvan Luculescu from Romania. Doors open at 6.30 pm and the concert starts at 7pm.
Tickets are £ 10.00 and can be obtained from any choir member or online at www.wegottickets.com
